The Funeral Process

Every funeral is different. Here is a guide to what to expect.

01

Beginning arrangements

When you call us, we will arrange to meet — at our funeral home, at your home, or wherever you feel most comfortable. There is no set agenda. We sit with you, listen, and let you set the pace.

We will ask a few gentle questions about your loved one and about what you have in mind. If you have no idea yet, that is absolutely fine. Our role at this stage is simply to listen and begin to understand who your loved one was.

One of us will be your single point of contact throughout the entire process — available by phone whenever you need to talk.

For over 45 years, our family has been dedicated to honoring your loved ones with dignity and grace, creating lasting tributes that reflect the beauty of their lives.

02

Burial or cremation

This is often one of the first decisions families consider. Both are equally dignified choices, and we support both fully. Sometimes the decision has already been made — by the person themselves, by faith, or by family tradition. If not, we will talk through what each involves.

Burial

We assist with grave space, plot arrangements, and liaising with local cemeteries across West Cork and beyond.

Cremation

We handle all arrangements for cremation. The ashes are returned to the family, and we can advise on urns and memorialisation.

03

Types of funerals

There is no single right way to hold a funeral. We have supported families in arranging everything from traditional Catholic Requiem Masses to non-religious celebrations of life, woodland burials, and quiet, private farewells attended only by immediate family.

What matters is that the service reflects the person who has died and brings some comfort to those who loved them. We will work with whatever faith tradition, community, or personal preference is relevant to your family.

  • Traditional religious ceremonies (Catholic, Church of Ireland, and other faiths)
  • Humanist and non-religious services
  • Celebrations of life and personalised services
  • Private or family-only funerals
  • Repatriation to Ireland or abroad

04

Planning the ceremony

We work closely with you — and with your priest, minister, or celebrant — to plan a ceremony that truly honours your loved one. Every reading, piece of music, or personal tribute that has meaning for your family can be included.

We take care of all the logistics: liaising with the church or venue, coordinating with the clergy or officiant, arranging the cortège, and ensuring everything runs with quiet dignity on the day.

  • Order of service booklets, printed with care
  • Music selection and PA arrangements
  • Floral tributes — we work with local florists
  • Memory tables, photographs, and personal effects
  • Livestreaming for family unable to travel

05

Choosing a coffin or urn

We offer a considered range of coffins and urns, from traditional solid wood to simpler, more natural options. We will guide you through the choices without pressure, and we are always happy to source something specific if a family has a particular wish.

Our full price list is available on request. We are committed to transparency: you will always know exactly what each option costs before making any decision.

06

Notices and announcements

We place death notices on your behalf — on our own website, in local newspapers, and through the channels most relevant to your community. We will ask you to share details about your loved one so the notice reflects them properly: their life, their family, their community.

We take care of all wording and placement. You will have the opportunity to review everything before it goes live.

07

On the day

On the day of the funeral, you should not have to think about logistics. We handle everything — from the cortège to the graveside, from the order of service to the final committal. A member of our team will be present throughout, guiding things quietly so you can simply be present with your family.

We work with the same sense of unhurried attention that we bring to every stage of the process. There are no shortcuts taken.

08

After the funeral

In the days following the funeral, there are often practical matters to attend to — notifying state agencies, managing estate administration, and more. We can offer guidance on what needs to be done and in what order, and we can point you toward the right people to help.

We are also here simply to talk. Grief is not a process with a timetable. If you have questions — about headstones, about anniversaries, about bereavement support — you are always welcome to call.

  • Guidance on notifying Revenue, DSP, and other agencies
  • Headstone memorialisation — we work with trusted masons
  • Bereavement support services in West Cork
  • We remain available for any question, at any time
